We offer appointments Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm and do our very best to provide you with appointment times that suit your schedule. We always try our best to assist you with an appointment on-the-day if you need to be seen urgently. For acute, severe or life threatening emergencies please call 000 or attend the Emergency Department at the Mackay Base Hospital.
Please inform reception whether you would like to book for a skin examination, a standard consultation or other (travel health, vaccination, cervical screening). Some appointments required a longer booking (for example skin checks, procedures and travel medicine consultations). We request to see all patients for an appointment prior to performing any surgical procedure.
New patients to the practice are booked in for a longer consultation for their initial appointment. This is so the doctor has the time to take a full medical history from the patient as well as addressing the current presenting concerns.
Please note that if you are coming with a family member and you would both like to discuss issues with the doctor you will need to book two separate appointments.
Procedures such as skin excisions and biopsies are not performed on the day of your skin check and require a further longer appointment.
If you would like to make an appointment please phone 07 49 578 922.
Referrals, letters, forms and other GP requests
If you require a referral to a specialist, script refill, a medical form or have a specific request requiring a doctor’s attention you will need to book an appointment. It is imperative that the doctors can monitor your medical conditions and your response to treatment. Medications should be reviewed at least 6 monthly. Completion of any forms requires a patient assessment so the doctor has the most up to date and accurate information recorded. We also ask that you respect the doctor’s limited time in the day, as when they are not seeing patients they are reviewing and following up pathology reports, reading specialist letters, completing paperwork, writing reports and more. Booking an appointment for these types of requests is appreciated so the doctor can manage you with the full attention needed and to keep on top of an already busy day.
Please let our reception staff know when booking an appointment.
When the practice receives your investigation results they will contact you if the doctor would like to discuss results with you. However, we are always happy to assist your follow up if you would like to phone to check if your results have returned. We are able to tell you if the results have returned, if the doctor has seen them and if a follow up appointment is required.
Reception staff are unable to comment on specific results. Pathology and imaging results can take anywhere between 24 to 48 hours after the test. However, every test can be unique so please note that some results can take longer than this.
Mackay City Medical is a private billing practice. Patients are able to receive their Medicare rebate at the time of payment for their consultation. Some services are able to be bulk billed such as chronic disease management plans. Fees can be discussed further with doctors or staff at the practice.
Please let our staff know at reception if you wish to be contacted by email for your appointment reminders for overdue care activities, (e.g skin check reminders, pap tests, chronic disease reviews). We also recommend at the time of your appointment you make a personal note in your phone or diary when the doctor would like to see you again.
Your feedback is important to us and we always endeavour to provide you with the highest quality service. Please let staff at reception or one of our doctors know if you have any problems with the service, or any suggestions, ideas or concerns. We will do our best to find a better way of serving you. Also, please let us know what you do enjoy about the service we offer so we can ensure to keep up the good work in areas you appreciate.
